Pat from Ohio in the USA emailed us
enquiring about two small PenDelfin wall plaques. She bought them
second hand for just a few dollars about 15 years ago. After we saw their
photos, we realised they were two miniature “B” Plaques from
the “Deep Relief Nursery Rhyme Characters”, namely Little Bo
Peep and Little Jack Horner. These plaques were from a set of 6,
introduced in 1956 and withdrawn in 1959. They were all designed by
Jean Walmsley Heap. Stella Ashbrook’s PenDelfin Collectors' Handbook
quotes a price between $795 and $1395 for each one of them. Now
that’s a bargain! She is considering selling them, so if you wish to
contact her, email her at her address PTompkin@neo.rr.com.

get more then 250.00 bid on Little Bo Peep so I have saved her to sell for
Christmas. I thought you would like to of heard the news. A lawyer form US
bought him ( Jack Horner). Anyway I thought I would give you notice before
I listed her, Probably Thursday Dec 5th I will have the auction open to
the UK as well. I don't know if I ever thanked you for all your help but
you were super with all the info you had provided.

plaques nursery rhyme
I
am so excited I don't know where to start. My Mother came over for a visit
and for some reason a set of nursery rhyme plagues I have had for
about 15 years hanging on the wall all of a sudden got her attention. She
took one off the wall and commented that they were PenDelfin and no wonder
they were so cute. But mentioned she thought the rabbit families as being popular. I
decided to check Ebay for these characters to find out more
about mine since she said they were collectible. Couldn't find anything but
rabbits. So I did a web search on PenDelfin to find out that these plaques
might be very valuable since they were very early pieces.
There
is a label on the back of what I think is Tom Thumb. Tom thumb has
the label. It is gold and black printed states, PenDelfin regd.Eng. Hand
Painted Stone Craft. The other figure of Mary has no label but the other
one of the exact shape of the label is visible where it was once adhered. I
bought these as a set.
The
only problem I see is the elbow of Tom Thumb the paint is about ready to
chip away it is like a crinkled paper just ready to peel away.
They
measure approx. 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" Mary and 4 1/2" x 2
1/2" Tom.
If
you could please let me know there value and authenticity it would be much
appreciated.
Thanks
in advance! Pat

RE: PenDelfin
wall plaques nursery rhyme
Hi
Pat
Where
are you emailing from? It will be interesting to know.
We
are as excited as you are… You have a couple of treasures on your wall.
They are very early and rare pieces and worth some “good” money. That
is the reason they are not on www.ebay.co.uk
for sale. I will find out some details and email you ASAP. In the meantime
look after them well…
Regards
Stel

Hi
again Pat
The
two pictures we attach show the miniature “B” Plaques “Deep Relief
Nursery Rhyme Characters”.
I
copied them from the PenDelfin Collectors Handbook. The Handbook is a valuable
Collector's reference. It contains a comprehensive price and colour guide
to all things PenDelfin and is written by Stella Ashbrook.
See our web /pendelf/information/handbook.htm
and also this web link netstoreusa.com/aabooks/
for availability of the book on the Internet.
There
are six plaques in the set6, introduced in 1956 and withdrawn in 1959, so
we are talking a good 40 to 45 years ago. Their names are Tom
The Piper’s Son, Mary Mary, Little Jack Horner, Little Bo Peep,
Miss Muffet and Wee Willie Winkie, .
They were all designed by Jean Walmsley Heap.
Did
you buy them new from a PenDelfin Stockist or were they “second hand”?
If so, when and where did you acquire them and were they expensive? We
will be interested to know as quite often the history of the item might
add to its value. Please let us know. If you do not mind we will publish
your email on our web site. A digital picture of their front and rear in
an email will be also welcome.
The PenDelfin Collectors Handbook quotes a price between $795 and $1395 for each
one of them, depending upon their condition and how much a buyer is
really willing to pay for them.
As
I said earlier, you have two delightful little treasures. Do look after
them well and I hope you found our response useful.
Looking
forward to hear from you soon.

interested in selling them can you direct me on how to go about it

Hi
again Pat
I
shall put your letter and pictures on our web site /pendelfin/collectorscorner/2002_letters/
by this weekend along with your email and the price bracket from the
collectors’ handbook.
I
could also (or you can) post a message on our MESSAGE
BOARD at /
PenDelfinLoversCorner/messageboard.msnw
Another
good place as you know, for selling PenDelfin is www.ebay.co.uk.
You should join in prior to putting them up for auction. Make sure you
define a minimum price and read carefully the TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE
before you put them up for auction.
There
is another web site, with a message board dedicated to PenDelfin, at www.worldcollectorsnet.com/
PenDelfin/index.html.
You may post a message there with the pictures you already have and wait
for a response with an offer. Congratulation
on your EXCELLENT bargain and if you do not mind, please let us know how
much they were sold for. They both look in a good condition.
Good luck and thanks again for the info and YOUR pictures.
Regards
Stel
